Course Goals:
1. To teach the study of Journalism & the use of equipment. 2. Students will learn the art of news writing & graphic design. 3. Students will study the principals & techniques of layout. 4. Students will learn marketing, advertising and publishing. 5. Reporters will study legal and ethical issues. 6. Reporters will learn the art of interviewing & editorial writing.
Course Objectives (taken from the Fl. Department of Education):
1. Using the reading process to construct meaning using technical informative and imaginative texts. 2. Using writing processes for various purposes with attention to style & format. 3. Using the research process and individual inquiry to locate, analyze and evaluate information. 4. Using effective listening, speaking and viewing strategies in informal and formal situations. 5. Understanding the power of language as it impacts readers, writers, listeners, viewers and speakers.
Discipline Policies: Students will use good manners and common sense in the classroom. All students will adhere to the : Polk County School Board School Policy: Available under Polk-fl.net. Students on any prohibited computer websites, such as 'My Space' will receive 1 letter grade below their average for one offense. More will result in the same consequences.
